Acheiving the perfect skin has been a journey most of us have been on since the beginning of time. Unfortunately, pimples, blackheads, and overall aging are a curse we can never seem to elude. I never truly considered my skincare routine effective or non-effective. It was always just a part of my day. Buying into fancy creams and serums was never in my budget, I faired welll with simple witch hazel, moisturizers, rose water/oil, and a homemade face mask here and there. I’m a pretty simplistic individual, having too many products overloads me and I end up falling out of my routine.
When I was contacted by a representative from a company called Willing Beauty to try out their HY+5 Complex Regimen, I was skeptical. However, upon learning about their safe and enriching ingredients, cruelty-free product testing, and their family oriented humble beginnings, I knew I had to give it a shot.
As a blogger, I get asked to try out different products on a regular basis. This is especially true for makeup and skincare products. I’m very picky about brands with which I’m willing to team up. I have strict guidelines that I try to follow when considering doing product reviews.
- Must be cruelty-free
- Must be affordable
- Must utilized natural and safe ingredients or products
- Must be manufactured and produced in an ethical manner
Willing Beauty hits all those requirements. Their products are free of parabens, sulfates, DEA, phthalates and synthetic fragrances. The entire premise of the HY+5 Complex is that you commit to a daily 5-step regimen that guards your skins against “environmental aggressors that your skin faces daily (UVA/UVB rays, pollution, a harsh climate) that can lead to lines, wrinkles, and discoloration.” In turn they promise that “HY+5 Complex™… replenishes and restores your complexion with vital moisture, nutrients and antioxidants to fulfill your desire for soft, supple, youthful-looking skin that glows and radiates health and happiness.” All this is suppose to be achieved ideally within 30 days of utlizing this product.
I know what you’re thinking, “Brooke, that’s way too good to be true.” I was thinking the same exact thing when I was first approached. My mindset was that I didn’t have extreme hopes for this product to work miracles on my lack luster skin however, I’m open to the possibility of great things to happen.
DO OVER Nourishing Cleanser – This is used day and night! Perfect for those with sensitive skin because it’s not harsh, there’s no overpowering fragrances and it will gently remove dead skin cells, as well as makeup. For myself using a cleanser both day and night seemed a bit tedious however, I will say it does a good job at removing my makeup at the end of the day.
DAYDREAM Illuminating Day Moisturizer – This moisturizer was pretty hydrating. I can’t say definitively that it’s the best I’ve ever used however, in pair with the cleanser your face will definitely feel softer.
GET SET SPF30 Tinted Primer – This by far was my favorite product of this regimen. At first I was not standing up for the tinted primer. As a WOC, what usually is claimed to be “universal” doesn’t always make the cut. The tint isn’t necessarily the best if you’re of dark complexion, you’ll be faced with that ashy look however, that can be easily fixed once you put on some foundation or whatever you’re into. Obviously, it’s a primer so it’s used to prime your face. I did find that when using this primer my makeup throughout the day was a lot less oily. I’d buy this primer again.
PARTNER IN TIME Age-Defying Night Serum – This product I wasn’t entirely sure about because I’m not certain I need an age-defying night serum yet. I don’t have wrinkles or fine line that are prominent therefore, I can’t definitively say this worked great me. After all, I’m only 24 years old so defying age isn’t something I’m concerned about, yet.
SLEEPOVER Replenishing Night Cream – Prior to this review I never utilized a night cream. I found that putting on a cream right before I went to bed would leave an oily residue on my skin and I’m just not here for that. I liked using this cream because it wasn’t heavy nor did it leave a film on my skin that I felt would rub off on my satin sheets. The antioxidants and fruit acids in this cream are suppose promote collagen. Using this night cream definitely made me think twice about not moisturizer before going to bed.
My experience with the HY+5 Complex was overall a pleasant one. I did have a bit of break outs in the beginning. I’m chalking that up to simply my skin getting acclimated to this new routine. In the end of the 30 days, I noticed my face was a lot softer and my complexion was brighter however, discoloration was the same. I have a bit of acne scars so therefore, I’m convinced I’d need a product that is a lot stronger to fade or fix any discolorment on my face. I enjoyed using these products and if you use them in unison I can definitely see how it would be beneficial. Personally, if I had to choose I’d continue to use the Get Set SPF30 Tinted Primer and the Sleepover Replenishing Night Cream. These two products had the most affect on my skin and in my opinion made this entire regimen worth it.
The HY+5 Complex Regimen retails for about $98. If you’re someone with sensitive skin, that is looking for great quality skincare with no harsh chemicals I’d definitely suggest heading over to the Willing Beauty website and picking up a set. If you’re like me and know what works for your skin I’d still suggest trying out any of these products within the regimen. They’re available for individual purchase.
